Hurricane Ike

Hurricane Ike is headed our way! For our area, the report from this morning forecasted sustained 80-110 mph winds and up to 10 inches of rain. Our community is not under evacuation orders; we have been asked to shelter in place, keeping the roads clear for the people who really are in danger of storm surge.

This is the first year since being in our house that we've had any significant storm threats, so hurricane preparedness is something a little bit foreign to us. But it's really not a whole lot different from preparing for a blizzard... In case of power outage, I'm making sure we have non-perishable food on hand, bottled drinking water, batteries, diapers, etc. It is certainly better to be safe than sorry.
