Hermann Park and the Zoo

We took advantage of the beautiful weather today by heading to the park.  We had a picnic lunch and played on the playground at Hermann Park, then spent the rest of the day at the zoo.  Lily was a ball of energy all day long, constantly on the go and climbing all over everything.  Her current favorite animals at the zoo are the sea lions.  Dylan rode in the stroller without his car seat, and he enjoyed kicking back with his feet up on his toys.  He also got to pet a goat for the first time today, and this was the first trip to the zoo where Dylan was clearly watching some of the animals.

Dylan's First Veggie

Dylan tasted squash today for his first vegetable, and he loved it! He gobbled it right up.

Easter Bunny

Lily was very excited to see the Easter Bunny at McDonalds, so long as he didn't come within arm's reach of her. She would talk to him and ask him to come over to our table, but as soon as he got close enough to touch her, she would crinkle her brow and shake her head. We stuck around for a little while, hoping she would relax enough to get her picture taken on her own, but it was no use. She wouldn't even give the bunny a high-five! But she did agree to stand in front of him with Mommy and Dylan.

Say "Easter Eggs!"

Video of Dylan in the Jumperoo

What a big boy!  It's so hard to believe that he's big enough to use the jumperoo already - especially without a stack of books underneath it like we did for Lily when she first started using it!

Jumperoo

Here are some pictures of Dylan in his jumperoo. He caught on to this thing quickly; he's already bouncing and swinging in it, and I've only been using it for a few days. He also plays with the toys on the jumper, and he looks at and touches the animal pictures along the sides. He's very observant. I can't believe how fast he's growing and changing right before my eyes!

Our First 5k!

We completed our first 5k this morning! We've run this distance twice before, but this was our first race - The Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Bunny Hop 5k.  I'm so proud of us both!
Dusty has been such a great motivator for both of us since we started running together after Dylan was born. I know I wouldn't have been ready to run a 5k today if Dusty hadn't been dragging me out of bed to work out in the mornings for the last five months (not to mention that I probably wouldn't have signed up for the race in the first place!). Evenings are tough to fit workouts in because we're tired at the end of the day; mornings are tough because, well, they're mornings and I would rather stay in bed. So we've been trying to encourage each other and be consistent, and we've been successful!
We took these pictures when we got home.

Living Room Campout

We had been planning on going camping this weekend for about a month. We almost got rained out, but Mommy had an idea - We built a tent in the living room! It's not quite the haphazard tunnel/fort/tent that I remember building in the front room with my little brother when I was growing up, but this tent in our living room is special, you see. It was an open side for movie viewing! Hahaha! We had SO much fun camping in our living room. Lily got to stay up past her bedtime watching a movie with us, and then she settled down really easily and fell asleep in between us. The only problem with a living room campout is the hard floor (I must be getting old). Next time we'll take the time to get the air mattress ready. Dylan didn't get to camp in the living room because he was already in bed for the night when we built the tent. Maybe next time we can make him a tent for his pack'n'play or something. We will definitely be camping in the living room again sometime.

Exersaucer

Here are a few pictures from the first couple of times Dylan used the exersaucer. The first picture is funny because he's watching Lily out of the corner of his eye. And can you tell he's blowing bubbles in the next picture?

Evening Story

"Can you read this book to me?" is a sentence we hear often in our house (and by often, I mean many, many times a day). Especially in the evenings when Lily's just a little bit sleepy but would never admit it - but you can actually see her sleepiness by the telltale hair twirling. I love that she loves books.

Pudding

There's something sweet about a spaghetti-faced little girl eating chocolate pudding out of a fancy sundae dish.

Rodeo Carnival

We enjoyed the carnival at the rodeo today. This is the first time Lily rode a carnival ride all by herself, without a grownup going along to sit with her. She really enjoyed it, but I think if you ask her about the rodeo she'd be more likely to tell you about winning the stuffed crayons at the fishing game. Ever since she went fishing with Daddy last summer, she has been very interested in anything that reminds her of it.

Baking with Mommy

Lily was at a playdate with a friend yesterday, so Dylan and I had some free time. We decided to make chocolate chip cookies! Dylan enjoyed being in the middle of things, especially when he flung his rattle into the cookie dough!

All Tuckered Out

Dylan doesn't usually sleep on his tummy, so I was surprised to find him like this when I walked into the living room the other day.
