"How's it going?" has been a popular question lately. And the answer is, well... It's going pretty well!
Dylan is eating and sleeping well. He usually eats every 2 to 2 1/2 hours during the daytime and goes down for the night sometime around 10. He wakes up to eat around 1, and then usually again at 5. At that point I try to just get up for the day, getting a bit of a head-start on Lily. So we've all been sleeping relatively well, and I think that's making everything else go pretty well too. Of course some nights don't go that smoothly, but this is a typical night.
Getting a decent night's sleep helps me to be patient with Lily, who has been such a good girl this week. She loves to help with Dylan, but she also needs my attention for herself, too. I try to have things for her to do while I'm feeding Dylan, and that helps a lot - keeping her occupied keeps her out of mischief. She's had a few potty accidents since Dylan arrived, but overall she's still doing well with that too.
We're eating well, thanks to our family and friends! We've received lots of help with meals, and this has been a lifesaver. The kids and I are getting along pretty well, but I do have my hands full with at least one of them pretty much all day long. There is very little downtime (blogging does not count as downtime, for two reasons: 1-I'm feeding Dylan while I blog, and 2-our out-of-state family members require me to post photos of the kids on a very regular basis). Cooking a meal while alone with the two kids is on my list of major projects that I'd like to tackle someday.
My c-section recovery has been great. I was really hoping that it would be as easy as my recovery after having Lily, and it really has been fairly similar. I took pain meds for the first 7-10 days, but nothing since then. I had a brief episode with my incision bleeding for a few days, but the doctor checked it out and said it was fine. It stopped bleeding over a week ago, and my abdomen is not sore anymore. For awhile it would hurt to sneeze or laugh really hard, but even that seems to be better now. I've been out walking a few times, which feels great. Jogging is still painful, though. Probably within a couple of weeks I'll be able to jog a little bit.
I've ventured out on my own with the kids a few times. The logistics of this are certainly more complicated than with just one child, so running errands takes longer than before. And I haven't attempted grocery shopping yet. But it has definitely been nice to get out of the house, even if it's just to go to the post office.
